Hey All,
Well I since I picked up that Savage scope, I was definitely NOT impressed with the Tasco scope the guy through on it when he sold it. I shot it a little this past weekend and found that the scope was WAY off zero. There was a little wind, but it barely hit an 8.5x11 sheet of paper @ 50yds. That to me says the guy had good optics on there, so instead of selling it naked, he through on the tasco. The overall optics quality is something that I would not enjoy shooting as the picture was dark and the resolution was very poor. Now I did improve with focus, but even at its best it is something I would rather not deal with on a rifle that shoots a .17 hole.
Over the weekend I was busy swapping scopes, and adjusting triggers and this is what I ended up with.
Ruger 10/22 ---> Sightmark Triple Duty 4-16x44 30mm (Even looks good) R700 (22-250) Tasco 8-32x44 (Not exactly sure on specs) And the Savage has no scope for now
So since I think I will really dig this Savage, I ordered a new scope for it. If you don't know already, let me explain that I do not feel that the only good scopes out there cost $1K+. I feel for bench shooting 100yds - 300yds a good scope can be found in a more reasonable price range. The Sightmark is an excellent example of an excellent scope for that application at a very low cost ($199.00) With that said, if my life depending on the scope I selected I would have a NightForce on my rifle.
Ok, now onto what I bought. I ended up scoring a Mueller 8-32x44 Target Dot (30mm) the price was $229.95 and it came with a sunshade. I was considering the bigger model of the Sighmark that I have which 2 of my buddies have bought since I got mine and they love them, but in my quest to try new stuff I wanted to finally get my hands on a Mueller. They are a newer company and I feel that they possibly be undiscovered resulting in a very nice scope for the money.
I will post some pics and a review after it comes in. I will snap some unmounted and try to snap some at the range looking through it. If this scope works out I will be changing over all of my bench guns to this. I will even pull my 10x fine cross-hair weaver off my custom mauser. The reason for that is, 10x is great for hitting the target, but I want to be able to see as up close as possible when I am shooting groups at 100yds. I can pull sick groups with 10x but I can not see EXACTLY what my center is covering so the boost in magnification is going to a nice change.

D33'z News : A much needed update

Well I am still here! During the summer I became extremely sick which landed me in the hospital and out of the game for awhile. After I got out, I had a reaction to the medication they had me on which resulting in major stomach issues that also landed me back in the hospital.
Needless to say, with all that time being sick, some family things, and trying to catch up at work, I have had very little time for shooting. I am happy to report I that I am back in the game and will be shooting as normal, well at least I hope so.
Since my last post, I got a few new pieces.
#1 Cohaire CA-89 (MP5 Clone) in 9mm #2 Savage 12BVSS in 17 Mach IV (Custom rifle) #3 Sig GSR 1911
And I finally got another multi-function printer/scanner/copier/fax! Now I will be scanning my targets and adding them in with the pics of the gun that was used to make'em. Check the photo gallery as soon it will be insanely large.
The youtube videos are just insane as I have over a 150. So feel free to check them out on youtube as my name on there is r1ngmasta or at some point I will update them on here. I got plenty of video fun of us shooting my Armalite AR-50, and tons of my other toys.
So yea, keep checking back as I am slowing going to start trying to keep this updated.

D33'z News : M1A Update!

Hey Hey,
Well it turns out the offer I made to the guy who was selling the Sage International EBR system for the M1A accepted! This is surprising as his first response to my offer was a no go due to already having a buyer lined up. It seems as though that deal fell through and I will be picking up the stock Friday at Cabelas.
I'm pretty stoked about it, but I am not considering this deal a 100% until he has been paid, and I have the stock. I don't think it will fall through, but you never know.
So anyways here is some information on the Sage International EBR system for the M1A and the config in which I will be using it.
My 18" M1A-A1 scout will be getting this new stock system. My goal is to make this rifle usable for tack driving, while at the same time functional for rapid fire. I suspect I may put some glass on this, or at the very least add a red-dot system. This maybe my entry point into the ACOGs, but who knows.
You can find a couple pix of my M1A-A1 in it's stock config in the photo gallery. I won't be selling off the original stock, so that way I have the option of making it a nice wood rifle again. This would also include military shoots or things of that nature. Now, the new stock system is used in the military, so I should be able to shoot the comps with it. I know they are open sight based so I plan to do everything I can to ensure that this rifle is freaking bad ass with open sights. Once I get them where I want is where the optics/red-dot will come in.
So anyways, enough of my rambling, here is that information on that stock I spoke about earlier....

D33'z News : A Much Needed Update

Hola!
Well this is a MUCH needed update. I got a lot of stuff to talk about and a good amount is gun related :P
---------------------------------------------------------- Reloading Area: ---------------------------------------------------------- Well the reloading area is starting to come around. I have successfully loaded .308 loads that have been able to shoot .372" groups @ 100yds! It's not the best I can do, at least I don't think it is. I have tons of room to play with the OAL, case size to play with, charges, powders, projectiles, etc. The best group so far with Sierra MatchKing 190gr HPBTs, Hornady Match brass, CCI Benchrest Primers, and 39grs of Accurate 2520 powder. This was a light load according to the Chronograph, so I got lot's to do with this. I tried some 155gr Berger Match bullets and didn't do to well. I need to find the right powder & charge to sort out this projectile.
Another reloading bit of news MidWayUSA.com pissed me off. I ordered 2 8lb jugs of Accurate 2520 online and 2 weeks later they call me and claim it is out of stock. The also stated I would get a full refund, but that has yet to be seen. I am following this closely, as I will make heads roll if this isn't right. As far as I am concerned they should have filled my order with 16 1lb jugs which would have been fine by me, but don't even get me started.
I plan to snap some pics of the reloading area soon after I clean the place up. My bench is clean, but the lack of shelves and other storage space makes it look terrible with shit piled every where. ---------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------- New Additions: ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- I finally took the plunge and scored one the uppers for a 1911 which converts a standard 1911 5" into a nice 16" plinker. I plan to take some pics of it this week. It shot really well, but I did have an issue with it. Due to the ammo I was shooting (*Winchester White Box (Target)*) it didn't have enough punch to proper cycle the action reliably. With that said, I plan to test it out with some more hotter charged loads to see how it reacts. I have a feeling that will be all that's needed to make that puppy run like a raped ape. Anyways, check back this week for pics in the photo gallery. ---------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------- Rifle News: ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 16" FAL;
Well I finally narrowed down the drill bit I need to bore out the gas port hole! I am going to start with a #32 bit and see how it goes. If this works the shorty should be running strong. ----------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------- M1A 18" Scout;
I am currently working on a possible deal for a SAGE Int. stock system for it. Even though I have fallen in love with the wood stock and everything as it sits, my EBR urge is saying convert the damn thing to the dark side. I am not hell bent at making this happen, so my efforts in scoring this deal are about 50%. As many of you know, if I was hell bent on getting one, this update would be discussing how the install went. Regardless I am made a good offer and I am waiting to see how it is received. ---------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------
There are tons of other things as well such as the addition of some new steel popper targets made out of AR500, a new club membership (W/ 500yd range), .223 reloading, 45 ACP component hunt, even one of my rifles going up for sale (Cetme), so email me or check back for updates as I get time. My work schedule has been kinda all over the place, but I am off Friday the 10th to Monday the 13th so I can't wait for that. We are also scheduling a range trip to Jonestown Fish and Game Saturday the 11th. Hope to see you guys there.

D33'z News : Scopes/Mounts/Reloads :)

Hey Hey,
I am working on testing a new brand of scope. I have been watching Yukon for a couple of years seeing how they do with the intent of maybe testing one of their scopes out. They just released a new line this year so (SightMark) so I finally hopped on board with one of their products.
I am always looking for good optics that are priced reasonably or even under priced (Due to not having a big name yet). If this scope kicks some ass, I will be testing a few more models in this line. Might be a chance to get a steal on a good optic before it launches and grows a rep.
Here are some details:
Yukon Sightmark 4-16x44 Triple Duty Tactical Riflescope SM13017: $179.99
It's got a 4.72" - 3.5" Eye relief (which is freaking sweet). There isn't tons of info or reviews on this line yet, so I am just going to take a chance and see how it is. That seems to be how I find real nice optics for good prices.
I also scored some freaking sweet aas mounts for the 700. I wasn't about to swallow the $200 tag for the Nightforce 20 MOA 1 piece mounts just yet, so I decided to try out a Dednutz setup. I always got a kick out of the name and I liked some of the other stuff I got of theirs in the past. So basically I got the same thing as the NightForce but for $59.95. Now if they work as well as the NightForce setup I am in great shape. The only way to tell will be to test it out.
I also tuned the trigger for the 700, and its BAD ASS. I need a trigger pull scale to tell you what it is for sure, but its damn near perfect for me. It's only damn near because I gave it another 1/4 turn to be on the safe side. I am thinking when my gear comes in this week and I actually take the time to mount the scope the right way I'll take a range trip.
As far as reloading I got some rounds ready for testing and some are getting on the warm - hot side. I pretty much loaded 5 of each with .5 grain power increases in efforts to see what is holding the best. I am even thinking of adding a reloading section to this site and update it with my load data. I don't know, its just a thought at the moment.
Anyways, I am off to bed, catch you all lata
PS> The gun room got cleaned up a lot, but still needs some finishing touches before I snap some pics to post. |
