D33'z News : Great Weekend! Remington 700, Dillon 550B Press, and Goodies!

Sup,
Sorry for the lack of updates and it was obvious from my last news post I had some serious shit going on IRL which made time for shooting null and void. So since then I am back on track and here is the latest info..
This weekend I officially entered the world of reloading. For the past 5 - 6 years I have owned a Lee Press and a kit which never seen a days use. The reason for this is I just didn't have any solid knowledge of reloading so there for there was a fear of trying it out. Well for the past year or so I have been talking with the guys at the range and this weekend I have finally took the plunge.
Instead of using the Lee press I ended up scoring a Dillon 550B press from Enck's Gun Barn at a very good price. This press gives me the ability to mass load rounds over the single stage Lee which is a nice plus. I was considering the idea of selling the Lee, but right before I decided to type up this update I figured I would keep it and set it up for my quick case trimmer dies.
I picked the Dillon Saturday and Charlie came over that night and set her up for me (With John & Bender). He was trying to teach me but I couldn't keep up with the details on the setup of a new press. Needless to say we ran some rounds through that night. We took the rounds out and they did pretty well. So that night I reloading a few on my own which worked well except for when my scope managed to pop the bridge of my nose, not good :(.
Now on to the Remmy 700 .308 . I didn't want to start reloading for my semi's yet, and lately I have been blowing through ammo like it's been going out of style. So instead I picked up a 700 Tactical 20" BB at Shyda's. I absolutely love it, and I don't shoot a 1/10th of the amount of ammo when I go out. I mounted my Springfield 4x14 on it and she does alright. I'm battling the short eye relief at the moment. That's saying something because I normally like to be right up on the scope when I shoot, but catching a scope to the bridge of the nose because I didn't set my shoulder is a little to close for me. I am considering the idea of pulling it and dropping on my Nikon for the added eye relief. I don't know for sure yet, so maybe a couple of more range trips with the rifle will give me the answer one way or another.
So overall, this weekend fuxin rocked! Expensive, but freaking sweet. The reloading is fun, and it's a good way to pass a little time. The 700 is great to shoot, so overall I can't be much happier. However, I do seem to continue growing the next shopping list and Dillon is going to start to love me. I checked out there site and now I am like a kid in a candy shop. So who knows what I will end up with. I do know that I will setting up for .223 in the near future to help get the 20" upper hitting some sick groups.
Anyways, I gotta roll now or I will be late for work. (Yea well it's a Monday right?)
PS> I will post pictures after I get the reloading area cleaned up a little and I'll snap a few of the 700 as well

D33'z News : The Job Stress Is Over... For Now?, Unexpected Results
|
| Posted by D33 on 2009/3/10 6:01:01 (5769 reads) |
Well I got some good news and some bad news yesterday at work.
Here is some background first. For the past 4 months there has been a company in at work evaluating our company from processes to jobs in order to "Streamline our business". Since the start many people (including myself) felt this would end in the loss of jobs. It has been pretty much the most painful 4 months of my professional life. Everyday I had to just hope I had a job to go to. Well yesterday was the day the jobs were cut.
The Bad News
M1X3r was one of the people that got cut. He was there for a little more than a year on the payroll and had another year as a temporary employee. It fuxin sucks as he has a family of 3 kids, 1 wife, and 2 dogs. So yea, I am pretty upset about that.
The fuxed up news (Or good news I guess?)
Well instead of me being canned, I ended up getting promoted an entire pay grade. My role before this change was "Logistics Technical Coordinator" w/ corp reporting, reporting to the plants Logistics Manager and Corp's Logistics Director. Now I am a "Systems Engineer" reporting to the Engineering Mgr at the plant level only. The reporting is a nice change because having 2 bosses is a serious challenge.
So there it is, and I have no idea how to feel about it. I mean, I am freaking stoked I still have a job, and the promotion was WAY out of left field. Before this company came in to make these cuts I was in the process of taking on a new role (promotion), but all of that was stopped during the process. I just can't see how I can get such a bump while others lose their jobs? We lost 3 people in Logistics and another got a demotion. Some more info, a full grade level bump is huge. A change like that doesn't happen often, unless you change locations (IE: I leave the plant and go to Corp). Most of the time they will give you a pay increase and move you into the next role. I guess this piece would hold more of a shock factor if I explained the dollar differences in my pay. I won't go into that detail but I made real good money before this, and this bump increased that by about 25%, plus a higher bonus %, higher yearly merit increase %, and all this other shit. I am now the same level as what my previous manager was....
I am not bragging about this bump at all, just confused. I mean I should be fucking jumping from the roof tops about it right? All I'm feeling now is kinda like "Blah" about it. Well, there is some fear in there as well because my new manager is pretty "by the book". My previous manager was kinda like "Here is the problem, sort it out" and I could pretty much do whatever was needed. So yea, who would have thought that the day would come when I would get what I wanted and but felt nothing good about getting it. Personally, I would have rather not have gotten a promotion if it would have kept someone employed. I would have even taken a negative pay adjustment to keep m1x3r there, or to keep the person from getting demoted.
Anyways, I guess it's a dog eat dog world in business, and I should be glad it wasn't me right? But damn that's cold....... I am hoping typing it will help me understand it better. So over the next couple of days there will be a lot of changes in my professional world. Trying to figure out my new accountabilities, trying to get a feel for what my new manager wants and how he wants it done. One more thing that sucks to is that I currently have a nice, big, private office which I will more than likely have to change for a fuxin cubical in a different part of the plant since I am no longer in the Logistics dept. So hopefully a lot of this stuff becomes clearer during this week so I can get settled and start busting ass in this new role.

D33'z News : Weekend Update: Range Trip with Videos
|
| Posted by D33 on 2009/2/14 17:30:00 (5519 reads) |
Sup all,
Well I finally got back out to the range today and sure enough we had a good turn out. Lisa and I had a chance to get some good videos which have been posted in the video gallery. At the moment some of them are not working as they need to be processed by Youtube, but in 10mins or so all should be working.
We had a great time overall and some of us are thinking about doing it again tomorrow. There have been a total of 12 videos uploaded thus far, and I may have another as well. Take a look and post some comments :)
I think the video of Hunter shooting my Springfield M1A-A1 is about equal to the group video with everyone shooting when we were packing it up. Let's get some voting or something.
I plan on writing more about this later, I am just tired and I have a lot of cleaning to do. So in the mean time, watch the video's as they will pretty much sum up the day for you :)

D33'z News : Ammo Update
|
| Posted by D33 on 2009/2/10 21:40:00 (5587 reads) |
Lately I have been running pretty low on ammo. In fact the last time I went out shooting I didn't even take a single .308 rifle due to my ammo shortage.
Well I am proud to say I have resolved that issue for now. I took the plunge tonight and stocked up the ammo cabinet. Most of the buying was from Trop's. So here is what I ended up with by the time I got home
Trops 4x Cases of 308 @ 239.00/500 2x Cases of 45 @ 180.00/500
Wolfs 2x Cases of 223 @ 136.00/500
So I came home with 4,000 rds of ammo, and mostly the high dollar calibers. This means I should be good to go for a little while, at least until bonus time at work at which then I can stock up again :)

News.. :)
So like I said in the last news update, I was working on the photo gallery. Well I got a shitload of organization done, snapped some pix and got busy. Take look and let me know of any issues that may come up.
I am trying to organize them base on the guns themselves. So like my Para C7 has its own gallery, the same as my Bushy. I still have a ass load of pix to take of the collection, but I did get some done.
Hope you all enjoy :) |
